Dynamics 365 · the agent catalog · checked 16 October 2026

Every Dynamics 365 agent, with its status and its source.

Microsoft ships a small, growing set of first-party agents for Dynamics 365 ERP: the Account Reconciliation Agent and Finance Agent for Finance, the Procurement Agent for Supply Chain Management, the Payables, Sales Order and Expense Agents for Business Central, and the Time, Expense and Approvals Agents for Project Operations, most of them still in preview on 16 October 2026. Underneath them sits the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server, generally available, which is also what partners build on: Microsoft has named agents from RSM, HSO, Fellowmind, Cegeka, Crowe, KPMG, Annata and SignUp Software. This page lists all of them with status and source, and marks the line where a custom build on your own F&O begins.

Account Reconciliation Agent

Dynamics 365 Finance

Production-ready preview (Microsoft Learn still labels it so; the release plan listed general availability for September 2026)

Matches and clears transactions between subledgers and the general ledger, flags the differences and proposes how to resolve them. Microsoft's September 2026 roadmap has it resolving exceptions in bulk next.

Public preview April 2025. Needs Finance 10.0.46 or later with Immersive Home and Agent management enabled.

Time, Expense and Approvals Agents

Dynamics 365 Project Operations

Production-ready preview

Time entry, expense capture and the approval queue, worked by agents so project managers approve rather than chase.

Public preview April 2025. The Approvals Agent needs Project Operations 4.140.0.239 or later.

Microsoft first-party · Business Central

The Business Central agents, and the Copilot assists that are not agents

Microsoft draws the line itself: Copilot proposes and a person acts; an agent works the task and involves people at defined points.

Payables Agent

Available in Business Central (no preview banner on Microsoft Learn as of 2 October 2026); validated in English only

Watches a mailbox for vendor invoice PDFs, extracts them with Azure Document Intelligence, identifies the vendor, proposes purchase order line matches and drafts the purchase invoice for a supervisor to review. It does not post the invoice, and it carries no approval flow or anomaly detection.

Limits documented by Microsoft: PDF attachments only, ten attachments and ten pages per document, five megabytes, one hundred emails and five hundred invoices a day.

Sales Order Agent

Available in Business Central (no preview banner on Microsoft Learn as of 2 October 2026)

Reads customer emails, finds the contact by email address, finds the items, checks availability (capable-to-promise optional), always creates a quote first, and converts it to an order on confirmation. Every outgoing email is reviewed by a designated user before it is sent.

Item availability inside the agent is still marked preview in Microsoft's documentation.

Copilot assists that are not agents

Mixed: several still marked preview per feature

Bank account reconciliation assist, e-document matching, sales line suggestions, item substitutes, analysis assist, autofill and summaries. Copilot proposes; a person acts. Microsoft lists them separately from agents for that reason.

The platform underneath

MCP servers, the Cowork plugin, business skills and agent-only roles

Every agent above, first-party or partner, works through these. Their status decides what a pilot can rely on.

Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server (dynamic)

Finance, Supply Chain Management, Human Resources, Project Operations

Generally available

The governed surface any agent uses to read data, drive forms and invoke code in finance and operations apps: seven data tools, thirteen form tools and two action tools, with the agent seeing only what the authenticated user's security role can see.

Public preview November 2025; general availability 27 January 2026 per the release plan, restated 23 September 2026. Needs version 10.0.47 (or 10.0.46 PQU-2, 10.0.45 PQU-7), a Tier 2 or Unified Developer environment, and the client on the Allowed MCP Clients page.

ERP MCP server for analytics

Business Performance Analytics

Public preview announced for December 2025

The boundary

Where a custom build begins

Microsoft's agents cover the standard process on a standard environment. Four places are consistently left to you, and they are where we work.

The controls before go-live

Agent-only roles, approval before anything posts, segregation of duties and an audit trail your auditors will accept. Microsoft's agent-specific RBAC arrives in preview in October 2026; the design of what each agent may touch is still yours.

The governance gap →

Your customized F&O

Microsoft's agents assume the standard forms and entities. Your X++ extensions, custom fields and bespoke flows are reachable only once they are exposed as Action tools through the ICustomAPI interface. That last mile is engineering.

The last mile on a customized F&O →

Your procedures as skills

Month-end, receipt chasing, exception handling: the way your team actually does it, written as governed business skills an agent follows rather than improvises.

Procedures as business skills →

The decisions the ERP never computes

An agent can read the reorder point because the field exists. It cannot tell you what it should be. Those calculations sit beside the ERP and are handed back through the same protocol.

The optimizer family →

What is dated, through March 2027

Questions people actually type

Dynamics 365 agents, answered plainly

Which Dynamics 365 agents are generally available and which are still preview?
On 16 October 2026, by Microsoft's own labels: the Payables Agent and Sales Order Agent for Business Central carry no preview banner and are available in the product. The Expense Agent for Business Central, the Account Reconciliation Agent for Finance, the Procurement Agent's supplier communications for Supply Chain Management and the Time, Expense and Approvals Agents for Project Operations are production-ready previews. Procurement impact analysis, Supplier Engagement and the Commerce MCP server are public previews. The Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server and the ERP plugin for Copilot Cowork are generally available.
What is the difference between Copilot, an agent and a business skill in Dynamics 365?
Copilot proposes and a person acts: bank reconciliation assist suggests matches, autofill suggests field values. An agent works a task on its own and involves people at defined points: the Payables Agent drafts the invoice, a supervisor reviews it. A business skill is packaged process knowledge, such as procure-to-pay, that Copilot, Copilot Cowork or an agent can run. Microsoft lists the three separately, and the distinction decides what you are responsible for governing.
Can Microsoft's first-party agents run on a customized F&O?
They run on the standard forms, entities and processes. Through the dynamic ERP MCP server an agent sees your extensions and personalisations in the view model, which is better than the static server managed. But logic that lives in your X++ code is reachable only once a developer exposes it as an Action tool through the ICustomAPI interface. That is the last-mile work on every customized estate, and Microsoft's documentation says so plainly.
Does an agent need a Dynamics 365 licence?
Per Microsoft, the agent identity does not need a finance and operations user licence when it is assigned the System agent security role, which carries no permissions of its own; the agent then gets its working permissions from other roles you assign. People who interact with a chat agent still need their own licence. Business Central agents and tool calls from clients other than Copilot Studio are metered in Copilot Credits.
Which security role does an agent use through the MCP server?
The authenticated user's. The server filters menu items, entities, forms and actions to what that role can reach, and rejects explicit calls outside it. Agent-specific restrictions, so an agent session can be narrower than the same user in the client, are Microsoft roadmap item 571677: preview October 2026, general availability December 2026.
Which partners have published Dynamics 365 agents?
Microsoft's own MCP announcement names RSM, HSO, Fellowmind, Cegeka, Crowe, KPMG, Annata and SignUp Software, each with a specific agent, and KPMG also lists a goods-received-not-invoiced chaser on Microsoft Marketplace. Partners build on the same ERP MCP server and Copilot Studio that any customer can use, which is why the question is less who published one and more whether it fits your process and your controls.
Where does Cognilium fit in this list?
We build the part the catalog leaves to you: the controls and approval boundary before go-live, the Action tools that let agents reach a customized F&O, your procedures written as governed business skills, and the decisions the ERP never computes. Our PO Receipt Chase Agent is built and demonstrated on request; our Contract Review Copilot is shipped as Paralegent AI. Status words are stated against everything we show.
How current is this catalog?
Every row was read against its Microsoft source on the date at the top of the page. Microsoft now publishes a continuous roadmap rather than release waves, so statuses move between months. When a row changes we change it here and the page's last-updated date moves with it.

Know which agent you are turning on, and what it may touch.

A working session on which of these agents fits your process, what each one may read and post under your roles, and where your customized F&O needs an Action tool before any of them can reach it. If Microsoft’s own agent already covers your case, we will say so.
