# VORTA: Ask Your Own Company, Get a Sourced Answer

What did we spend on contractors last quarter? Finance needs exact numbers.

## In short

Why did we choose Postgres over MongoDB? The CTO is asking.

What did we spend on contractors last quarter? Finance needs exact numbers.

Can remote employees expense co-working spaces? I think we discussed this.

What were their main concerns from last quarter?

**It reads where the knowledge already is** Meetings and recordings, documents and drives, the threads in Slack and Teams, the wiki nobody has updated since March. Nothing has to be migrated into a new system first, which is the step that kills most knowledge projects.

**Hybrid retrieval, not vector-only** Meaning-based search and keyword search together, then a re-ranking pass over what both returned. Vector similarity alone finds passages that sound like the question rather than passages that answer it.

**The answer arrives with where it came from** Every answer carries the source it was drawn from, so the reader can open the meeting or the document and check it. An answer you cannot trace is a rumour with better formatting.

**It hands over rather than guessing** When the material does not contain the answer, it says so and passes the conversation to a person with the whole thread intact, instead of producing something plausible. Sentiment and priority decide what gets escalated and how fast.

Zoom, Loom and Teams recordings become searchable knowledge, with the timestamp the answer came from

Slack and Teams threads and email, with the context that surrounded a decision preserved rather than flattened

Confluence, Drive and SharePoint — the wikis, the policies, the specs, the things people were told to read once

Integration paths into the Zendesk and Salesforce class of tools, so the answer and the ticket stay in one place

VORTA does two jobs in one assistant: it answers your customers around the clock, and it answers your own people from the meetings, documents and threads the company already has.

Every answer arrives with the source attached, and when the material does not hold one, it says so and passes the conversation to a person.

jobs in one assistant: customers, and your own staff

kinds of source it reads, none of them migrated first

answers invented when your material has none

## Answers from your own documents, with the citation behind each one

Vorta: Enterprise RAG Assistant — LangChain/LangGraph, citations, re-ranking

## The answer exists. Somebody just has to find it again

Almost nothing a company needs to know is genuinely unknown. It was decided, it was written down, and then it was scattered across five tools.

These are not support tickets. They are the cost of a decision being re-debated because the first debate is unfindable, and they happen every day in every company big enough to have written anything down.

## Four things that decide whether a knowledge assistant is trusted

None of them is the model. A retrieval system earns its use in the first week or gets abandoned in the second.

## Facing out, and facing in

Same retrieval underneath, two different audiences, and most companies buy it for one and end up using it for both.

## Customer support

It resolves questions at any hour, holds a multi-turn conversation, works in the customer's own language, and reads the sentiment of the conversation to decide what needs a person. When it hands over, the human gets everything the customer already said rather than a fresh start.

## Internal knowledge

It answers staff questions out of the company's own record — what was decided, what the policy is now, what the number actually was — so nobody digs through five systems for one answer, and nobody re-litigates a decision because the original discussion cannot be found.

## Where it reads from, and where it does not

It reads what you already have, in place. There is no migration project in front of the first useful answer.

When the material changes, the index changes with it. A knowledge assistant that answers from last quarter's policy is worse than no assistant, because it is confidently wrong.

## VORTA's famous numbers are not on this page

They came from a product marketing page, not from an engineering measurement, so we stopped repeating them.

This is the oldest thing we build — the concept dates to 2024 — and it accumulated a resolution rate, a monthly ticket volume, a response time and a savings figure along the way. None of them traces to a document we can stand behind, so all of them are gone, along with a compliance certification we do not hold. What replaces them is the machine described above, and an offer: bring the five questions your support line hears most and the five your own staff ask most, and watch it answer them from your material with the sources attached.

Five from your support queue and five from your own team. We will point VORTA at your material and answer them in front of you, including the ones it should refuse to answer and hand to a person instead.
